Welcome
My name is Aranea Van Burik
and I have the pleasure of running the Coombs Wooden Shoe for 7 years. The key to success in any venture is to make sure you enjoy what you are doing, and I love working at the store.
I was born in Utrecht,
Nederland and immigrated with my family to Canada in 1976.
I was a young girl at the age of 10 with my eyes wide open in amazement when we landed in Edmonton.
My parents settled just south of Leduc and ran a Dutch Import store/gas station, I guess you could say that I received my training growing up in the store.
I moved to Vancouver Island in 1994.
I have always had a deep fascination for the ocean.
It reminds me of the good times my family and I had in Scheveningen.
The weather here is for sure just like Nederland.....lots of rain!
I started the store in 2003 and enjoy every minute of it.
The customers are fantastic and happy and a joy to be around.
Lots of laughter and lekker gezellig.
In 2008 my fiance Mike
started working with me full time in the store.
Mike is Canadian born, but surprisingly enough, his Mom and Oma are Dutch-Indonesian.
His knowledge of the Indonesia food is of great value.
The other two faces that you will see in the store are my Mama and my daughter.
It is always a pleasure for me when one or both of them work the store.
This is truly a family run operation.
I hope that you get a chance to stop into the store and discover "A little piece of Holland"
